Press Start to Join did the FA Cup in May 2016 – The Story of the Day
The floor plan had been drawn up, the consoles selected from the 70 units held in the PS2J vault and the games chosen from the 1300+ in the PS2J library.
That must mean its time for another video gaming event from Sussex’s premier venue – The Martlets Hall, Burgess Hill. Well, the queue outside as the doors opened at 2pm certainly suggested so.
The gamers flooded in and were met with the beautiful sight of CRT’s and flat screens joyfully displaying the delights we had set up. Unusually we had applied some logic this time with banks of tables set up by brand.
Sony included a PS1, PS2, PS3 and another PS1 for good measure
Nintendo was a royal flush of NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube
SEGA kept it real with a Master System, Megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast
Whilst Microsoft had a pair of Xbox classics and two 360’s
Forza Motorsport 4 on 360 and Ikaruga on the Gamecube.
As the theme of the day was the FA Cup which we were showing in full, thanks to good old iplayer and a rather lovely projector. We decided the focus the tournaments on football, this included Sensible Soccer on our faithful Commodore Amiga and FIFA 16 on the PS3.
As is the norm with Press Start to Join events everyone got quickly stuck in getting their names down for the tournaments, checking out what the latest challenges were and enjoying the array of just for fun multiplayer games provided. To name just a few we had Road Rash, Rush 2049, Streetfighter 4, Mario Kart, Playstation Battle Royale, Streets of Rage, Super Monkey Ball, Speedball 2 and much much more.
For the first time ever we also had the behemoth of game controllers on show. The 40 button legendary controller.
